Opening of New Medical Colleges
The Council in its 116th meeting held on 8th May, 2010 considered the letter No.F.5-1/2010/DGH, dated 26th April, 2010 received from Director General Health, Ministry of Health, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad.

The Council debated the decision of the Federal Government to impose moratorium on opening of new colleges and observed that the Council had already suggested a moratorium to the Federal Government in view of scarcity of faculty. However, in all fairness it was decided that the public and private institutions in urban areas which are complete or in advanced stages of completion or such colleges whose applications are pending before PM&DC/Ministry of Health and the ones going to be received till 31st December, 2010 shall be considered for inspection for recognition. There after no application shall be entertained till 31st December, 2012 after which this decision of moratorium shall be reviewed. The Federal Government may notify this decision accordingly.

The Council also decided that it shall give preference and encourage the opening of medical colleges in a rural setting and in those districts where no medical college exists previously.
